Violet Mae Kimmel

      Violet Mae Kimmel, age 88, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, departed this life on November 24, 2002 in Cedar Park, Texas.  She was born on February 4, 1914 the third daughter of the Reverend Noah and Julia Norris in Clay City, Illinois.  Violet is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 42 years, and her three sisters, Fern, Myrtle, and June. 
        Violet graduated from Elkville Community High School in 1931.  She was a member of numerous churches, serving the Lord her entire life.  She was a member of Saint Louis Catholic Church, in Austin, Texas, at the time of her death.  Violet married James Bennett Kimmel on July 3, 1933, they began their long, and full lives together that produced 3 children, 13 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.  She began her career at McDonald Douglas Aircraft Company in 1956 where she retired after 23 years of service.  Upon her retirement in 1979, Violet made her home in Austin, Texas.  Violet will be dearly missed and remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, gracious hostess, wonderful cook, and by her quick wit, who was always ready to engage in spirited conversation about religion and politics, and the lunches with her friends "The Golden Girls".
        Violet is survived by her daughter, Loretta Lynne Kimmel-Cook and husband Mural of Lago Vista, Texas; sons, James Edward Kimmel and wife Jan of Cedar Creek, Texas; Larry Norman Kimmel and wife Betty of Freeburg, Illinois; granddaughters, Leslie Pees, Kim Kimmel, Heide Kimmel, Jennifer Taylor, Kristie Patterson; grandsons, Larry Norman Kimmel II, Keith Kimmel, James B. Kimmel, Dean Kimmel, Jason Edwards, Joseph Edwards, Jonathan Edwards, and John Cook; great-grandchildren, Gabe Kimmel, Sarah Kimmel, Claire Pees, Cody Pees, Cassidee Taylor, and Nicholas Taylor.
        Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 29, 2002, at the Neal-McClure Memorial Chapel with Rev. Msgr. Harry Jerome officiating.  Burial was in Elkville Cemetery.                                           
       The Neal-McClure Funeral Home in DuQuoin was in charge of arrangements.
